Welcome to OpenLightComm

Overview

OpenLightComm (OLC) is an SME, founded in 2016. OpenLightComm offers consulting services in the converged landscape of IT and Telecommunications. Our extensive experience and knowledge-base has been acquired over many years by directing and/or conducting research and development for Industry and Academia. Through participation in co-operative multinational Research we have seen that the benefits are priceless for all partners who contribute their distinct thinking and experience.

In the framework of H2020 Metro-Haul, OLC’s contribution on SDN Controllers for Passive Optical Networks has been spotted by the European Commission’s Innovation Radar (EU link)

OLC participated in a number of UK and EU funded projects

  • AirQKD (Innovate-UK) – Development of the Quantum Key Management Layer of the project and the integration –via an SDN control/management plane- of the quantum and classical networks
  • H2020 Metro-Haul (EU) - Contributed on various topics of Telco network design and modelling, development of SDN control plane and the physical layer of optical networks.

Our main expertise is in the following fields

  • Open, Converged IT and Telecommunications Networks and Services
    • Softwarised Fixed-Mobile Converged Platforms based on Open Software
    • Architectural solutions for ICT
    • Multi-layer and Cross-layer Networking in Fixed Networks
  • Optical Communication Systems and their Technology
    • Physical Layer Modelling and Design of Optical Communications Systems
    • Assessment of Optical Technology and its Impact on System Performance
  • Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) Technologies
    • Design and development of QKD systems including: a) Key management layer (key management node and links/ KMM system); b) QKD control layer (SD-QKD Node, QKD control agents, SDN Controllers of QKD network); c) QKD orchestration layer; d) service layer.
    • Expertise on the development of QKD systems based on the ITU-T and ETSI GS QKD standards [ITU-T Y.3800, ETSI GS QKD 004, ETSI GS QKD 014, ETSI GS QKD 015, ETSI GS QKD 018]
